Selling Diamond Engagement Rings To Museums
The class that I was taking had to do with fine art. Our professor took us on a field trip to a gallery that housed many older pieces of jewelry. I am always curious to find out how the museums and galleries get the pieces that they display. Did someone sell diamonds to them that were definitely worn by famous women and how do they document it? I would think that trying to verify who can sell diamonds and who cannot would be tough.
The original owner of an engagement ring once owned by a famous Kennedy was displayed and considered art. Now, who would sell engagement ring pieces from the Kennedy family and did they have permission. The lady, who gave us the tour, answered all the questions that I had and more with her knowledge of each piece.
Apparently there was a handwritten and signed letter approving the sale of the engagement ring. So, the person did have permission to sell engagement ring pieces from the Kennedy family. I would have bet that the ring was worth over twenty thousand dollars and since it touched such a famous person, which actually doubles its value. I wonder how much my engagement ring will be worth when I am long gone and if anyone would like to display it in a gallery or museum.
